THE insulation industry has welcomed the Federal Government's multimillion-dollar boost, saying it would lift the sector and generate jobs. Leisa Warren, who owns the Insulation Superstore on Brisbane's southside, praised the package.
"As part of the Federal Government's proposed $42 billion economic stimulus plan, about 2.7 million homeowners and landlords will be able to insulate their roofs for next to nothing, industry representatives say.
"The Government says the initiatives have the potential to shave $200 off household energy bills and reduce 2020 greenhouse gas emissions by 49 million tonnes.
"And with an estimated 40 per cent of the nation's homes uninsulated, the Government is also banking on a demand spike to support jobs across the manufacturing, distribution and installation arms of both industries.
"The average cost of installing insulation in a home would be $1400 to $1600 anyway so it really is as close as you can get to free installation,
"The ceiling insulation scheme starts in July, will last for 2½ years and will also be applied retrospectively. Households that have insulation put in their ceilings between now and July 1 will be reimbursed."
